About the Verse

What is Rivals of Aether?

The Aetherverse primarily revolves around the indie platform fighters Rivals of Aether 1 and 2 (Fleet only showing up in 2), plus a couple of spin off games. The RoA games are heavily inspired by Super Smash Bros. Melee, they share a bunch of mechanics and have a couple of their own to make the games highly technical and pretty sick imo. Instead of Nintendo’s mascots RoA has its own characters, each with their own elemental control based gimmicks. Slippery ice floors, smoke screens, projectile-blocking force fields, petrifying crystals, etc.
If you like Smash, maybe give it a try?

The world of Aether

Rivals of Aether takes place on the continent of, well, Aether. Inhibitants of Aether have control over one of the classical elements; fire, water, air, or earth. Kinda like ATLA. Most don't seem to have much control over their element, some don't seem to have any kind of elemental connection at all. But there are some who develop more advanced control over their element. It has been a tumultuous time for Aetherians. The king of the Flame Imperium has been murdered by a prince, and the minister of trade has usurped the throne. Flame Imperium forces have since been seen all over Aether. They wiped out the secluded smoke clan, burned down Merchant Port, and a general has been seen on the other side of the continent scouting out Julesvale. Other factions such as the Air Armada are on edge. The world is on the brink of war. To make things worse, the Abyss is back. Eldritch monsters sealed away eons ago are slowly breaking out, spreading corruption and malice throughout Aether in their attempts at returning to Aether and conquering the continent they claim is rightfully theirs.

About the Muse

Fleet is the self-proclaimed Hero of Julesvale, a steampunk town within the continent of Aether. While she fiercely protects the townsfolk from villainy, she's earned more notoriety than fame because her overzealous actions usually only leave more destruction in her wake. Now that she's taken an oppressive megacorporation down a peg and defeated an eldritch horror, Fleet has gone on a new adventure. There's a lot more going on outside of Julesvale, and with her trusty bow, upgraded wind powers, and newfound confidence, she's set out to find new rivals.Fleet was born and raised in the city of Julesvale, a bustling city on the outskirts of the continent of Aether. As a steampunk society, Julesvale is the most technologically advanced city in Aether, and Fleet proudly hails from a family that helped Julesvale get to that point. However, with these advancements came a new challenge that Aether hadn't seen yet. A mining company called Badger Co. became too big, and started monopolizing the mining business and creeping into other sectors as well, exploiting employees and citizens as their capital started to control the entire city. In her late teens, Fleet decided to turn her near lifelong hobby of archery into a Tool for Justice, becoming the (self-proclaimed) Hero of Julesvale. Almost a decade later, Fleet is still stealing from the corrupt (oftentimes the exploited working for the corrupt) and giving to the exploited, but Badger Co. has only gotten more powerful despite her best efforts. Badger Co. now controls the entire city and almost everyone is forced to work for them. They are an ecological disaster that has nearly destroyed Julesvale on multiple occasions. Competitors and people who oppose them mysteriously disappear. Fleet's family was forced to flee Julesvale, but she will not be deterred from being the hero to get the fame and respect she thinks she deserves. This portrayal of Fleet takes place post-Dungeons of Aether and relies a lot on headcanons. Be sure to check out the combat section too even if you don't do fight RP. She's a fighting game character after all so that and her magic is pretty integral to her character.

Additional info

Information on Fleet is pretty hard to find. Googling her either gives insanely outdated tidbits or irrelevant frame data resources. Below are two videos which give some additional info on Fleet for those seeking a little more. The Rivals lore video is timestamped to Fleet's section, and goes on to discuss the entire plot to Fleet's game, Dungeons of Aether. The 2nd video is a longplay of Dungeons of Aether. Feel free to skip around or watch as much of it as you want. Skip to 4:34:04 (I cannot timestamp past 1 hour) for a scene near the end of the game, where Fleet talks to a bunch of other characters before the final boss. It's a good capsule of who she became by the end of DoA.

About the Mun

Hey! You can just call me Doug. I got into Rivals not long ago, and the brainworms got bad enough that I've decided to make a new rp account for the first time in 4 years. Nice to meet you!
I'm mostly used to RPing by responding to ads on forums and discord, not too familiar with this style. I primarily like focusing on story lines and building relationships between our muses over the course of multiple RPs. If you're interested in RPing with me, please follow back! I take not following me back as a sign that you're not interested in RPing with me.
🌪️ He/him pronouns. ➵

Combat

As far as I'm concerned, fights don't have to be pre-planned and plotted, they can just start in the middle of RP if we feel like it. I do not bother with rolling dice or whatever, I write what I think will be most in character and narratively satisfyting, and I trust that you are a competent writer that will not godmod and 'nuh-uh' everything. We can decide a winner through DMs eventually. I can be quite flexible with Fleet's power level to adapt to your verse.I write Fleet how I imagine she fights in-universe, divorcing her from game mechanics. In game she primarily uses her bow like a sword, not using archery nearly as much as you might think. She's meant to be a nimble archer. On one hand this means I won't write her styling on your ass by wavedashing into a ledge cancel slingshot neutral b reverse momentum turnaround into a nair to teeter cancel up air to up smash, on the other hand she will be a very obnoxious zoner.Elemental ability: Wind Chime
Aetherians have elemental control, but only a lucky few have elemental control powerful enough to fight with, at which point they usually develop their own 'niche' within their element. Fire elemental fighters in Rivals for example does not only include a normal pyromancer, but also someone who controls smoke, another who controls plasma, and one who controls magma. Fleet has dubbed her niche within the Air element 'Wind Chime'. It is the embodiment of air as a medium, as the space in-between. She is able to enchant her arrows with the power of air, and can transfer it to someone else or an object by hitting them with the enchanted arrow. After a few seconds, they will be launched into the air. She can also choose to Wind Chime the very air she fires an arrow into.
This ability is the basis for all her magic.
Float
Arrows aren't the only things Fleet can enchant with Wind Chime. By enchanting herself, there is no countdown and she can launch herself into the air, or float in the air for a few seconds.
Master Pickpocket
During the events of Dungeons of Aether, Fleet was tasked with retrieving powerful artifacts from thieves. One of these thieves was a skilled pirate who stole the Drop of Nourishment, allowing him to heal from any injury.
Fleet, a long-range fighter, somehow managed to pickpocket this powerful artifact actively being used by the pirate, and he had no idea until the fight was over and she ran off with the Drop of Nourishment in hand.
She is a very skilled thief, and may attempt to steal stuff from your muse, even in the middle of combat. I will give you a heads up when she's about to go for it, but just know she's good.
